A Couple of Creepy Caretakers in Cinema

Creepy caretakers have been a staple of horror movies for years. Their role is to give their house guests and viewers the heebie jeebies and also leave them guessing whether they are deranged killers.

Recently I noticed some similarities between two such characters; Torgo from Manos: The Hands of Fate and Hanson from Scary Movie 2.

Both Torgo (John Reynolds) and Hanson (Chris Elliott) have wandering hands and seem to have an affinity for awkwardly stroking the hair of their attractive female guests. Their actions are so similar, it makes me wonder if it's too much of a coincidence. Perhaps the director or writer of Scary Movie 2 was a fan of Torgo and the character of Hanson was a tribute to him. The only difference is one was meant to be a horror film and the other a comedy although you could argue that Manos was an unintentional comedy.

Which woman handles the situation better? Is it Margaret (Diane Mahree) with her delayed reaction and face slap or is it Cindy (Anna Farris) with her nervous and horrified reaction?
