Ten Movie Podcasts for Your Ears' Enjoyment

Whether you're a jogger, a bus rider or just cleaning your house, chances are you listen to something to break the monotony. Maybe you're strictly a music listener but if you're a movie buff and looking for something different, you might want to give one or more of these podcasts a try to help pass the time.

Most of these shows are weekly and some have been recording for more than five years. They all vary in running time per episode, lasting anywhere from an hour to two or more. Some are more humourous than others but there's sure to be at least one that you'll enjoy.

In no particular order, here are ten podcasts I suggest listening to:

1. Film Junk (covering the art house to the mainstream and everything in between) approx. run time 2-3 hrs.
2. The Projection Booth (The ultimate movie podcast) approx. run time 2-3 hrs.
3. Mamo (the show about movies and popular culture) approx. run time 30 mins-1 hr.
4. Horror Etc (intelligent approach to the format, theme-based & spotlight content) approx. run time 1-2 hrs

6. Bad Movie Fiends (1 star? We're in!) approx. run time 1-2 hrs
7. Alcohollywood (drinking games for films) approx. run time 2 hrs
8. /Filmcast (the latest films, film news, television shows, and entertainment-related items) approx. run time 1.5-2 hrs
9. Proudly Resents (comedians and writers recapping their favorite good/bad and cult film) approx. run time 30 min.-1 hr.
10. B-Movie Cast (devoted to all things B-movie and cult movie related) approx. run time 2-3 hrs

All of the podcasts in the list above are completely free to listen to but a few of them do record the occasional premium podcast. These are usually longer, theme-based episodes and available for a minimum donation, such as this one from Film Junk. Reed Farrington, the amusing/annoying character, is sometimes recruited as guest host and actor.




Here's a playlist of episode highlights from Bad Movie Fiends that will give you an idea of their senses of humour and what kind of films they review. I think it's fair to say that these guys have fun watching bad movies and it rubs off on the listeners.




Occasionally, the podcast hosts will escape from their cages and actually record in front of a live audience. This was the case here where the Film Sack crew did their show at Nerdtacular 2011. Please do not feed the podcast hosts.

Alcohollywood is the movie podcast that turns movie viewing into a drinking game. The Chicago hosts describe it as "Your source for cinebriation! Combining mixology and drinking rules with the fine art of film."

Mamo is a very casual movie podcast that usually records in restaurants. It's a very relaxed atmosphere with the ambient noise contributing to the discussion of Torontonians Matt Price and Matt Brown.




Vince Rotolo of the B-Movie Cast gives you a tour of his home recording studio, allowing a glimpse of the equipment he uses to produce his podcast. Vince, along with co-hosts Nic, Mary and sometimes Juan, discuss B-Movies, Cult movies, Interviews, Art house, Independent, Drive-In, Horror, Biker Euro Trash, DVD, Magazines, Music, Tradeshows, Expos, Italian thrillers, Exploitation, Vintage TV, Gear and Pop Culture.




Adam Spiegelman hosts the Proudly Resents podcast about cult films and interviews with the people who make them and love them. Often funny.



Bonus Selection

Talk to the Hand is an internet talk show completely dedicated to 'MANOS: the Hands of Fate', the 1966 cult horror film. Although the movie itself may be terrible and unwatchable to some (OK, many), this podcast is very interesting. Each episode, host Keith McCaffety invites a different guest who is somehow connected to the movie and discusses its history.
